Summer Art Camp / Summer Piano Camp

Summer 2013 Art and Piano Classes

Art:

Mondays 10:30am – 12:30pm (teens and adults art class)

Tuesdays 10:00am – 12:00pm (childrens and teens art class)

Fridays 10:30am – 12:30pm (childrens and teens art class)

Saturday 10:30am – 12:30pm (children, teens, adults art class)

Fees:

$114 per student per month / 4 classes (2 hours each)

Supplies are provided except for oil painting where there is a $2 paint fee per month and you will need to buy your own canvases and clay (crayola air dry clay)

Piano:

Wednesday mornings until 12pm for extra private piano classes

Tuesdays from 12:00pm – 3pm extra private piano classes

Fees:

$60 per month / 4 half-hour piano classes

$120 per month / 4 one-hour piano classes

Group Piano Camp (starting June 20th):

Thursdays and Fridays 9:30am – 10:30am June and July (may go on to August if there is interest). Group size 3 – 10 students.

We will learn basic music reading, piano playing with various techniques, fun pieces to play, and we'll have at least one recital to play your pieces for each other parents and for your families.

Fees:

$75 for 4 hours (2 weeks)

$2 per 4 weeks per student for sheet music handouts

New once-a-month Special 3-hour Art classes

I am going to hold one Sunday art class a month for all who want extra classes and for those who can't make it regularly on other days.

February's Special Sunday Art Class will be held on the 17th of February. It will be 3 hours long, and students can stay for 2 or 3 hours.

The cost per students will be $30 for 2 hours or $45 for 3 hours.

In February's class we will do ceramics using hand turned wheels, animal portraits in oils and basic drawing focusing on shading and dramatic light / dark contrasts.  Students can focus just on one aspect or do 2 or all 3.

Students wanting to do ceramics will need to get a tub of crayola air-dry clay or let me know in advance to get some for them and pay for it on the day.  The cost for a tub is around $5 (the larger tubs are about $8).

Please let me know whether you would like to participate as soon as you can.  I am limiting the class to 10 students.

New Art Classes 1/2/2013 and 1/4/2013

Two new art classes scheduled for January 2nd and January 4th, 2013.

Classes cater for students aged 5 to 18, beginner to advanced.

The classes will cover a number of different projects, including collage, drawing and painting.

The classes are held in Livermore and run from 10:30 - 1:30.  Cost is $45 for three hours or $80 for all six hours.  Please contact the instructor for further details.

Another of my students won First Prize in the "Grandmothers Who Help" Art and Poetry contest

Congratulations to my 13 year student Kaycee Bilke who won First Prize in the "Grandmothers Who Help" Art, Poetry and Essay writing contest!  Her oil painting "Sparkles the Unicorn" won the prize and is now on a 10 month US touring exhibition with the 2nd and 3rd place winners from the same competition.  You can view the competition winners here: "Grandmothers Who Help" Art, Poetry and Essay Writing competition

A third student wins 1st place at the Alameda County Fair

A 10 year-old student from my homeschool classes, has also won First Place at the Alameda County Fair Art Contest this year.  Her drawing of a garden is the prize-winning work.

Art and Piano News July 2012

ANOTHER OF MY STUDENTS WINS FOUR TOP AWARDS IN THE ALAMEDA COUNTY FAIR ART CONTEST!

Congratulations to 8 year old Rachel Mattison won four 1st place awards at the Fair's Art Contest as well. Her painting of The Cat in the Hat, inspired by the Dr. Seuss character, is pictured below.

Piano Recital planned for late October

I will be holding a small piano recital for my piano students in late October. It will be a very friendly and easy-going recital as the students are just beginning to learn the piano, and most are in elementary school or younger. I would love all the students to show off one or two of their pieces and hear what the other students are doing. We will have refreshments after the recital. I will announce more details in September.

 

Caricature Sketching for Parties & Events

I recently did a Caricature Sketching Event at a graduation party. It proved to be a lot of fun, especially with the children!.

If you are having a party or event in the coming months and need an extra activity I am available to do caricature sketching again. In addition I can give a caricature workshop & guests can draw each other afterwards. if you are interested please call or email.

Upcoming exhibition of instructor's paintings and drawings

I will be showing a number of my drawings and paintings in an exhibition at the Figurehead Gallery in Livermore in August 2012.   The show is entitled "Figures and Faces" and includes 4 -5 nationally and internationally respected artists.  Please plan to stop by in August to see the show.  I will post further details about the exhibition closer to the time.

Art school and Instructor News

Art and art history classes have started at the Robert Livermore Community Center and run until the end of July 2012.  We had a good turnout for the class - almost completely full.  The classes are for younger school-aged students, and teach various styles and techniques as well as famous artists from the history of art.  Students make an artwork in the style they have learned about.  So far we have done Egyptian art and Impressionism.

The instructor, Thomasin Dewhurst, has had her work published in a prestigious book INDA6 from Cincinnati's MANIFEST Gallery .  The publication presents some of the finest examples of contemporary drawings from the USA and worldwide. Fish-Kite project

The kites were made from two pieces of tissue paper in the shapes of fish.  The two pieces were glued together along the long sides, leaving the mouth and the tail end open.

The kites were decorated with tissue paper fins and scales.

Streamers were glued to the tail end.

The string was attached to the mouth end.

The mouth is reinforced with a ring made of paper to which the string is attached.  The ring is important as it opens the mouth to let the air through when the kite flies
